It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been blogging for a month or for the last eight years of your life, the concept of monetizing your blog is something you cannot escape from.
Like most people, you’re probably asking yourself the same questions:
- Should I earn money from my blog?
- Can blogging really support me financially?
- How can I earn enough money from blogging?
One of the most effective ways to monetize your blog is through Google AdSense. But keep in mind that this is not a shortcut to success. Most people will tell you that it takes a very long time, a lot of patience, and even a little financial investment on your part to make this work for you.
So what exactly is AdSense?
This is a program designed by Google that lets people earn money by putting Google advertisements on their website or blog. As you know, there are countless ads online, especially in the search results of Google.
You can make money from AdSense in two ways:
- Impressions – The number of page views on your posts or pages that contains the ads
- Clicks – The number of clicks other people make on your ads (take note of the words “other people”, as you cannot click on your own ads)
How do you get started?
The steps are simple. First, sign up for an AdSense account, and you’ll be given a code. Add the code into your blog. Select the way your ads will appear and the location on your site. You can even choose which types of ads to accept. Be sure to accept only those that are relevant to your blog and applicable to your target audience. When your earnings reach $100, this will be deposited to your bank account.
Who can use Google AdSense?
Users of Blogger and self-hosted WordPress can make use of AdSense. For Blogger users, make use of the Monetize tab to activate and manage your AdSense account. For WordPress users, go to the AdSense website and sign for an account. You’ll be asked to use a plugin for this. Keep in mind that you cannot use AdSense if your blog is under free WordPress.
How much can you earn?
Before you think about making your first million dollars, you have to remember what was said earlier: this is not a shortcut. You won’t get rich overnight using this tool. For some bloggers, it took them years before they earned their few hundred dollars. It takes quite a long time to reach that point and lots of traffic.
Of course, this is not meant to discourage you. This is meant to challenge you. People who have had so much patience and determination achieved great success using this tool. Some bloggers were even able to retire early because of this. And this is something you’d want to aspire for.
